Sorting is an essential skill that students need to learn in their early education years. With this set of science sorting mats, students can sort 16 different objects by light and sound.

What is included?
  1. 2 (two) light and sound sorting mats (8 pieces per mat)
  2. 1 (one) light and sound reader - printable (16 page booklet)
  3. Light and Sound lesson plans (how to use what's included)
  • First (read the booklet), Then (complete the sorting mat)
  • Skills Targeted by These Activities
  • Potential IEP Goals for Skill Mastery
  • Other activity ideas for this topic

How do I use this in my classroom?

I print on white cardstock, laminate, cut out and add Velcro. During center time or during "free" time, these sorting mats are readily available for students to work on. Depending on ability level, I give the student both sorting mats to work on at once.

You can also use the sorting mats to create a file folder activity or game.

Special Ed for Everyone

I did not end up using this as once I actually purchased it I realized it was not exactly what I needed (which was in no way the seller's fault since I understood what it included) but I think this is a great resource that is perfect for Special Education and Science. In general it is very hard to find Special Education resources for Science so thanks for this awesome product!

I was a general education science teacher and had life skills students join my classes every day. These matching always activities aligned perfectly to what we were talking about in class so I always felt comfortable having students work on them during my class and not feel like they were missing out on anything. Many of these words were able to be found on assistive technology apps so my student was able to practice using the assistive technology and practice science skills. Thank you thank you!

I purchased to go with a physical science theme unit and love that I was able to expand their opportunities to demonstrate skills in this way. For some students, I made it errorless and for others, I was able to have them match and/or sort. Such a fun addition.
