Sorting is an essential skill that students need to learn in their early education years. With this set of sorting mats, students can sort 40 different objects by one of the five senses.

What is included?

  1. 5 (five) sorting mats (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) (8 pieces per mat)
  2. 1 (one) 5 senses booklet reader - printable (16 page booklet)
  3. 5 Senses lesson plans (how to use what's included)
  • First (read the booklet), Then (complete the sorting mat)
  • Skills Targeted by These Activities
  • Potential IEP Goals for Skill Mastery
  • Other activity ideas for this topic

How do I use this in my classroom?

I print on white cardstock, laminate, cut out and add Velcro. During center time or during "free" time, these sorting mats are readily available for students to work on. Depending on ability level, I give the student both healthy teeth sorting mats to work on at once.

You can also use the sorting mats to create a file folder activity or game.

My children were interested in helping prep this activity. They were engaged briefly but came back to it later. We will bring it out again next week and go through it with them and I’m sure they’ll be excited

Love it. My only thought was maybe the different senses should not be outlined in different colors. I found that they were matching color not senses.
